Continuation, of local blogger

This is the article I mentioned in my previous entry but, I wrongly wrote as 2000 hits per day, actually it was about 6000 to 7000 hits per day!

p/s After I read this article, I had decided not to leave the blogosphere and hence, the creation of this new kularilari blog.

Hacking Ikea furniture online anyone?
By Hazimin Sulaiman

COPYWRITER Yap Mei Mei, nicknamed Jules, from Ipoh has a blog. But just not any blog; it’s one which has received a lot of attention, including from foreign publications like The New York Times. Enter Ikea Hacker in your search engine or point your Web browser to ikeahacker.blogspot.com and you’ll get the idea why it gets 6,000 to 7,000 hits per day!

Before the 20,000 hit explosion caused by the article in The New York Times, Jules used to blog personal stuff but decided to close it down. “I got too busy with ikeahacker and couldn’t maintain the other blog,” she says.
With all the amazing stuff she puts up with other contributors on ikeahacker.blogspot.com some would imagine that Jules is a technology savvy ninja person but she disagrees. Jules mainly blogs at home on a Streamyx broadband connection and a HP laptop PC which she’s not sure what the specifications are. That doesn’t seem to stop her from being such an uber-blogger.

“I didn’t know a strand of html previously and had to learn from scratch. I spent a lot of time at blogging 101 level: figuring out how to add pictures, links, etc. Thank God the Internet is a good teacher! You can learn anything if you are patient enough and you know how to Google,” Jules explains.

According to Jules, the first two to three months was a complete blur but she soon got the hang of it. At the moment Jules spends one to two hours per day on her blog and blog related matters such as answering e-mails and checking out Ikea related news.

Maybe being a copywriter has its distinct advantage in drawing in the crowd? Well, Jules admits that the writing is the easy part of blogging. “Writing an ad or a post isn’t very different: you still need to grab attention and make your readers want to read on.”

What inspired her? When asked whether she did it for friends, pleasure or simply for the love of Ikea, Jules explains that it all began when she bought her apartment and wanted to furnish it. She was practically camping out at Ikea. She went online for home decor sites and saw a fantastic Ikea hack. That was when it striked her to compile all the hacks in one site.

With successes like Jules from Ipoh on the blogosphere, it will undoubtedly cause a lot of excitement. People may want to create similar blogs. Jules has a few pointers that you could try out. “Depending on what you want to do. If you just want a blog to share your life, just go onto Blogger or Wordpress and get a free account. But if you intend to make money with your blog, it is a totally different ballgame and there is so much to be said about it,” says Jules.

Jules isn’t ready to give up her day job yet. “Yes there is money to be made, but blogging is not a get-rich-quick scheme. It’s a slow burn. If you consistently give out great content which people find of value, you may reap a return,” Jules admits.

The rewards of blogging she believes are not just monetary: it’s also about making new friends all over the world. “I am very thankful that people find my site inspiring and useful,” Jules adds.

1. Find your niche. People like passion and the Internet is full of people gone crazy about their hobbies and interests.
“What’s your niche? You may not be an expert yet, but educate yourself. Then write about it and if possible everything about it.”

2. Find the blog platform you’re comfortable with. The perennial Blogger versus Wordpress debate goes on. Blogger is easier: you can set one up in five minutes. Wordpress’ learning curve is steeper but offers more flexibility and plug-ins. “Whichever you go with you need to get your own domain name, which I regret not doing. It is a real pain to lose all your inbound links and technorati rank.”

3. Get traffic. Make nice and visit related blogs and forums. Try to get to know other like-minded people. Don’t spam by writing stuff like “Nice blog!” and expect others to drop by yours. Do write interesting and useful comments on the blogs or forums. Others will soon see that you are a valuable member and you know what you are talking about and will click through or link to or recommend your site.

4. Network with others. “One of my traffic breakthroughs was when I sent Armand of PositiveFanatics.com (the unofficial Ikea fan site of which I am eternally grateful to) an e-mail about my site. He was kind enough to post it up and suddenly I had hundreds of visitors a day, from the previous day’s 10s. His post not only sent traffic my way, but the news was picked up by other sites such as ApartmentTherapy.com and BoingBoing.net, which totally blew the covers off my stat charts,” says an ecstatic Jules.

5. Learn from the pros. “One of my must-read sites on making money from blogging is problogger.net. Loads of useful information you can put to use immediately on your site,” Jules points out.

Playing with new toy - the digital scrapbook introduced by Wan.

Of browser and local blogger

What's up? What's up.... akuni in the house......

Notice something different in my blog today?

Yes?

No?

May be that can explain why I'm blogging in bahasa omputih lately.

Today, I have to switch to Mozilla Firefox because I don't know what's wrong with IE, some webpages in blogspot didn't seem to appear the way its suppose to be. I was able to put up the google adsense in this blog through mozilla. What browser are u using? Netscape? IE? Mozilla? I heard there were a few more new browsers available for the public but at the moment, I am okay with IE and mozilla.

I almost give-up on blogging actually but I was inspired by one article in NST last week about a local blogger. I have yet to visit that blog but 2000 hits a day? No kidding.
sorry, tak jumpa article tu online

Jom visit the blog:

Secret chicken rice

There is one secret I wanna tell you all.

This is what Malaysian luvvvv to eat, the Chicken Rice. It is for human to eat though, not for the chicken.

Don't tell other people but this chicken rice will cost you RM5!

It was even wrapped up in paper box. Very environmental friendly huh?

This one I bought from another local restaurant. You can get it with RM3.50. But the bowl was mine, ok, not from the restaurant. So what is the secret I wanna to tell you all?

"Don't go to the above restaurant"

The past in me

The past is never really the past. It stays with me all the time.
-Norman Bates, Psycho III

For those who had watched the movies Pscyo, Psycho II or Psycho III, you know that no matter how hard Norman Bates tries to forget the 'Mother', he will always be haunted by 'her' and became 'her' and the urge to kill will never stop...

So, that was the story of Norman Bates.

The story of makcik ni from shah alam here would be different.

The past is the past but it never really leave you, people will always remember your past, no matter what you became now...

"Ko kenal tak penyanyi yang nama Jamal tu? Ala... yang hisap dadah tu la... yang masuk keluar masuk keluar pusat serenti tu...."

Why not:

"Ko kenal tak penyanyi yang nama Jamal tu? Ala ... yang berlakon filem Azura tu... yang handsome, yang tinggi, yang suaranya sedap sangat nyanyi lagu Gadis Melayu tu..."

Contoh lain:

"Si Zarina tu dulu pernah bergambar bogel tau untuk majalah lucah"
Walhal, Zarina tu dah insaf dan hajjah dah sekarang.

People will never forget.

I did complaint that I was feeling bored because I don't have any activities to do beside surfing the internet and blogging. So, I have found this wonderful website where I got to know a lot of new friends, involved in their activities, until one day, somebody from my past contacted me.... oh... I really hate to say that I am not even happy to this so called 'jejak kasih'....

May be I was happy for the first few moments but when he started to recall my past, it just stroke me in the head that "damn, how many people knew about that?"

I pulled myself out immediately, feeling ashamed and angry... I realised that once, I was not a good girl. I did thing that I shouldn't. When you are a lot younger, you never thought that whatever that you do will be remembered when you are older. You just thought that you are young and you wanna to try things.

That is why, I always remind my little sister to "remember that whatever bad things that you do today and proud of, you will actually live to regret it in the future. Believe it because I have gone through it!"

I wrote in my previous blog quite sometimes ago that I don't like re-union, alumni, gathering or whatever they called it, one of the reason is this - because I don't people to remeber my past and I don't want to remember it too.

Then, does this mean I can not become 'somebody' in the future, like somebody famous, politician may be, high rank government officer may be?

Tidak sihat

8 MAC 2008 - SELAMAT MENGUNDI

7 MAC 2008 - 16 MAC 2008 - SELAMAT BERCUTI SEKOLAH

Semalam (Jumaat), aku terpaksa ambil emergency leave sebab Adik demam. Sebenarnya dalam minggu ni dia on and off demam, tapi sebab malam khamis dah ada dialog ni, terpaksalah aku ambik emergency leave bila bangun pagi jumaat tu tengok badan Adik panas lagi:

Adik: "Ibu, kalau esok saya demam, boleh tak ibu cuti?"

Ibu: "Nape? Ibu ada kerja la esok. Kalau demam duduk la rumah nenek."

Adik: "Rumah nenek bising lah"

Rumah nenek tu sebenarnya rumah babysitter. Memang betul pun, kalau dah cuti sekolah, lagi lah riuh rendah sebab semua yang babysitter jaga ada kat umah dia. Kalau dah bising, tak boleh lah adik nak berehat selepas makan ubat demam.

Sebenarnya bila aku dah cuti emergency ni kan, pagi ada meeting, petang ada briefing terpaksa aku batalkan/postponed. Nasib baik lah tak urgent sangat meeting dan briefing tu.

Sebelah petang, Adik merengek-rengek, katanya perut sakit. Badan dia memang panas.

Baru terlelap sekejap dah perut tu sakit balik. Sakit tu macam on and off gitu.

Anak2 pula demam. May be sebab last week ada sukaneka dan sukan sekolah, probably badan tu letih sangat. Semalam aku cuba uploadkan video sukaneka tu tapi tak keluar, tak tahu lah kenapa. Tak ada rezeki nak tunjukkan korang.

Last week aku attended TT anakperlis.com di Seksyen 7, Shah Alam. Gambar ada kat sini.

Template baru lagi...

Kelakar kan? Kalau seseorang tu sedang 'fikir-fikir' kan nasib blog nya sendiri, tentulah dia tak tukar layout nya kan?

Aku bukan setakat tukar layout, siap letak video lagi. Ha... bila aku masuk blog sendiri, aku boleh nonton video. Barulah best. Barulah aku rasa sayang....

Layout baru ni, susah sikit nak baca textnya kan? Puas adjust dah tu... tapi tak tau nak buat macam mana lagi.

Selama aku berblogging ni, sejak 19 February 2005, entah berapa kali dah aku tukar template. Hampir setiap kali kerana aku rasa bosan, aku akan tukar template. Bila aku rasa 'down' pun tukar template lagi.

Minta maaf

Assalamualaikum.

Saya minta maaf kepada blogger yang kerap masuk ke blog saya ni tapi tak nampak apa-apa update.

Tak kiralah betapa sibuknya saya di pejabat, saya memang tiada masalah nak update blog sebab saya update blog di rumah.

So, saya bukan sibuk dengan kerja. Cuma sibuk mendiamkan diri aje.....

Saya juga sibuk berforum di anakperlis.com

dan saya juga sibuk memikirkan nasib blog Sejenak Di Hari Ini, entah esok lusa ada lagi ke tidak blog ni.....
